How to Use Biometric Security to Protect Your Notes in PureText

Private notes deserve real privacy. PureText includes built-in biometric security that locks your entire app behind your fingerprint, pattern, or password — with zero cloud involvement.

Why In-App Security Matters

Even if your phone has a screen lock, anyone who gets past it has access to all your apps. PureText's app-level lock adds a dedicated layer of security specifically for your notes.

Setting Up Biometric Lock

  1. Open PureText and go to Settings.
  2. Tap App Lock or Security.
  3. Choose your preferred method:
    • Fingerprint — fastest and most convenient
    • Pattern — draw a custom pattern to unlock
    • PIN / Password — classic 4–6 digit or alphanumeric password
  4. Confirm your choice and the lock is active immediately.

The next time you open PureText, you'll be prompted to authenticate before seeing any files.

How It Works (Privacy-First)

PureText uses your device's Android Keystore and BiometricPrompt API. This means:

  • Your biometric data is processed entirely by your phone's secure hardware
  • PureText never sees, stores, or transmits your fingerprint or password
  • Even we cannot unlock your app

Protecting Individual Notes

Beyond the app lock, you can also:

  • Store sensitive notes in a hidden folder inside your chosen storage directory
  • Use the built-in Recycle Bin rather than permanent deletion, so you can recover files if needed

Tips for Maximum Privacy

  • Enable both a device screen lock and PureText app lock for double protection
  • Avoid storing very sensitive data (like passwords or financial info) in plain text — consider a dedicated password manager for that
  • Regularly back up your notes folder to a secure location via USB

Security and simplicity don't have to be opposites. PureText proves you can have both. Download it free on Android today!
